About Artisean

Artisean is the blog I wish I had been writing for the past decade. Nominally it's about tech, AI and startups because that's what I'm doing right now, but I'm probably going to pack in some diversions along the way.

Why do I wish I had been writing it for the past decade? Well, I've moved around quite a bit in my career. I spent time working in civil engineering, finance and now tech, in some roles that have been technical and some more like product/project management. I've generally followed my interests as they've changed, and I'd love to have been able to read back on those interests now, and how my perspectives have changed.

I've also found that I don't write so much any more. When I was an engineer, I used to write a lot of engineering reports. While engineering reports aren't super creative, there is something to be said for having to write your thoughts out yourself as a tool to help you think. Over the last few years it's become too easy to have AI do your writing (and thinking) for you.

Why is this blog called Artisean? A couple of different times in my career, I've been described as a craftsman. I hope what is meant by that is that I'm competent, and build things with a reliable, quality feel to them. Anyway, I was looking for something that evoked that idea, and found that "artisan" and "Seán" can be combined into Artisean (although I'd pronounce it "art-IS-ee-an", not "arty-Sean").

Writing for myself, I'll be happy with my audience of 1 (plus a bunch of bots that seem happy to scrape anything at all). But, if my perspective resonates with you, reach out and let me know!
